I'm somewhat of a non-believer in everything superstitious and proudly so! You'll never find me freaking out if a cat crosses my path or if I happen to walk under a ladder. Does breaking a mirror really bring seven years of bad luck? And if a bird flings its excretions on you, is it really your lucky day? These superstitions, contrary to what some friends try to grill into me, are creations of ancient circumstances and in all probability 'old wives' tales'. The one thing that baffles me is people's fascination with horoscopes! I know people who rush to get the newspaper first thing every morning and feast on every word that makes up their horoscope. Their excitement is infectious and so today I've decided to give my own forecast a shot!
For all you know, I might end up a convert - a horoscope-maniac! I'm a proud Leo (my birthday falls on August 5) - let's see what's in store for me today. It says, "Attending a party will be fun. You'll make god use of your skills at work. Those looking for love won't be disappointed." Whoa! A party, good job at work and a chance at love - NOT A BAD HOROSCOPE! I'm excited - daydreaming of whether I'll need to shop for this 'forthcoming' party, the director ecstatic and yelling, "That was a mind-blowing shot, Gen!" and a mysterious, tall, dark and handsome stranger... and all these things just waiting to happen! But will they really? I sift through other newspapers to find more horoscopes. This one says, "You are energetic and optimistic today. Romantically it is a lucky day." Another one alluding to love, romance and all things beautiful. Maybe there's truth in these horoscopes after all. Another reads: "Remain focussed on your goals; a tough day ahead in terms of work. Keep a cool head if things don't go your way." What? This can't be true. I'm supposed to have a good day at work.
Horoscopes are like snow-flakes, no two are alike! But what if one of them is true? Should I call in sick and stay in bed? Or should I rise up to the horror-scope challenge and make sure my day is exactly how I want it to be? Of course I accept the challenge Mr. Crappy Forecast - we'll see who wins! Maybe I should take to writing my own horoscopes and working hard to make them come true!

Movie Review: Singam
Production: Sun Pictures, Big Pictures and Studio Green ProductionsDirection: Hari
Star-casts: Surya, Anushka, Prakash Raj, Vivek, Radha Ravi, Nizhalgal Ravi, Bose Venkat and many others
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Cinematography: Priyan
First things first, you guys must watch ‘Singam’, even if you aren’t an ardent buff of Surya or Hari. The reason is that it has got all the specified elements that define a top-class entertainment catering to the tastes of all cohorts.
A hunky cop bashing down roughnecks single-handed, tripping legs with his ladylove, finest challenges tackled between good and baddie is all what it makes ‘Singam’ – a stunning film.
The film centers on Durai Singam (Surya), a sincere cop, who joins the service for his father’s (Radha Ravi) request. It doesn’t mean a great job to him as he wants to be a part of his dad’s business, i.e. provision stores. But he keeps settling down each and every dispute in town by his good means as he perceives everyone to be his close relatives. Then comes cute, zippy girl Kavya (Anushka) for vacation in Nalloore and falls in love with Durai Singam for his specialties. But things take a different turn in the tale with the entry of deadly ruffian Mayil Vaaganam (Prakash Raj), who runs kidnap racketing. When, he’s out on a conditional bail to report everyday at Nalloore police station, he avoids by taking things for granted by sending his fellowmen. Honesty takes its possession, when Durai Singam orders Mayil to be at station within couple of hours or else threatens him to be barged behind bars.
Here starts the speculative situation as Singam is transferred on promotion to Chennai, but Mayil Vaaganam personally recommends him to be posted at Thiruvanmiyur Police Station patently for settling scores.
What follows next is a series of cat and mouse game that makes you move towards edge of seats.
Surya himself acts as the biggest brand to sell the film and on pars is Hari’s stunning screenplay. Not even a single moment you would feel so restless and annoyed just as it happened with some of the previous commercial films. Anushka has more to do with this film unlike her previous shows, in which she was precisely utilized for glamorous factors. Vivek’s comedy is quite okay, but not to the expected levels. Prakash Raj’s sleepwalking through the same baddie role doesn’t make us irksome rather electrifies the script.
You’ll keep counting what’s gonna happen next and further for every 5 minutes as you wouldn’t feel that 2.5 hours as already passed by end of show.
Devi Sri Prasad’s musical score is an added value while cinematography and editing adds more momentum to this racy screenplay.
On the whole, the producers can keep themselves ahead on cloud nine as the film is sure to cross 100 days with houseful shows across many centres.
Hats off to director Hari and we expect the sort of show with his upcoming films as well.
Verdict: A Must watch
Rating: 4/5

Vijay was the only person shocked after seeing that the trailer of his film Sura was lifted after the 13th day of the release of the film. Sura’s trailer was replaced by Singam trailer.
The film was taken out of the theatres on the 25th day of its release. Vijay who had the knack of making his film run for 100 days in spite of its failures was not able to do this time, though he held the Chennai city rights.Hence, Vijay has purchased the film Kavalkaran outright. The reason for this that he didn’t want the Sun Pictures to acquire the rights and the second thing is that he wanted to set right the losses incurred by the distributors by releasing Sura. He has planned to act in a film and give the distributors at a low price.

The late and legendary MGR, the first film actor in the whole world to have ascended the throne of chief-ministership thanks to the cult popularity he had carefully built surrounding his on-screen image, had started a film ‘Kizhakku Aapirikkavil Raju’ which wasn’t completed due to his political career and was later abandoned.
The film was to be the sequel to the legend’s highly successful ‘Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban’ but wasn’t to be. Now, one hears that ‘Captain’ Vijaykanth has taken it upon himself the responsibility of stepping into the shoes of the late legend and complete the film, making subtle changes in the screen-play.
Vijaykanth would start this film after he finishes his first directorial venture ‘Virudhagiri’, the shooting of which is going on at present. Political observers point out that Vijaykanth’s move to make the film early next year, at the time of assembly elections scheduled to be held in the State, might have been timed to garner the votes of fans of the late actor.
Only time will say whether the strategies of the black ‘MGR’ would pay off or not!

Actor-turned-politician Vijaykanth is leaving on a 20-day long tour of Hong Kong and European countries for the twin purpose of shooting for ‘Virudhagiri’, which marks his directorial debut as well as to spend the vacation with his family members.
‘Virudhagiri’, in which Vijaykanth plays the lead role, is produced by his brother-in-law L.K. Sudeesh on behalf of the banner Captain Cine Creations. The film’s shooting began late last year but was halted mid-way due to the bye-elections that took place in the State and also because of the convening of the State Assembly, which was in Session in February-March.
The song sequences are likely to be shot in Hong Kong for around 10 days after which the actor would leave for an unspecified European country for holidaying with his family.
On the eve of leaving abroad, Vijaykanth held an ‘important’ meeting with the office-bearers of his political outfit. Sources say that some ‘significant’ decisions were taken at the meeting.

Vadivelu is facing a series of problems after his fallouts with DMDK president Vijayakanth and his one-time close associate Singamuthu. Recently, he called on Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi to get his blessings for doing a role in ‘Ilaignan’, which has script by the octogenarian.

Asin has been shooting in and around Vellore for the past couple of weeks and has created some sensation in the area. Local people are flocking in huge numbers to the spot(s) where the actress shoots for her film ‘Kaavalkaran’ opposite Vijay. The crowd went so mad that police had to be called to control them. Police even indulged in ‘lathi-charging’ to disperse the crowd.
The shooting of ‘Kaavalkaran’, Vijay’s 51st film, directed by Siddique, was taking place at a modern Indoor Stadium at Sathuvachari in Vellore where a song sequence featuring Vijay and Asin was being choreographed under the supervision of Raju Sundaram.
On getting to know of Vijay and Asin’s presence in their territory, the entire Vellore appeared to have descended on the Stadium. Though the crew kept the on-lookers at a safe distance, the crowd slowly but surely grew out of patience. Asin then came out of her caravan and waved at the crowd which waved back feverishly. The fans jostled with each other to come near the actress and shake hands with her.
Since the enthusiasm of the crowd had gone beyond control, the crew called the police. The police lathi-charged and dispersed the crowd after which more police forces were brought in as a ‘precautionary measure’ to control the crowds.

Ajit, who has just returned from the European Grand Prix Motor Car Racing Championships, is taking it easy and not rushing up about making a formal announcement about his next film, which would also be his 50th film. The fans were hoping that the film, to be produced by Dayanidhi on behalf of his Cloud Nine Pictures, would be directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon.
In a recent interview, Gautham has dropped a ‘bombshell’ by claiming that he wasn’t aware that he was going to direct Ajit’s 50th film. “You will have to ask him (Ajit),” he quipped to a question about whether he would be directing the star in his landmark 50th film. “The announcement was made, no doubt; but neither Ajit nor anyone from the production side met me in this regard,” said Menon.
“At present, I have a couple of projects on hand: the first one would be the Hindi version of ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’ in which Trisha would again be playing the lead role and another Tamil film starring Vikram in the lead,” said Menon.
So we have to wait for the formal announcement to know who would be the director of Ajit’s landmark film.

Kajal Aggarwal, who has tasted huge success in Telugu movie ‘Magadheera’, finds little time to comeback to Tamil, where she made her debut.
Kajal debuted in Tamil films opposite Arjun in Bharathiraaja’s ‘Bommalattam’, later starred opposite Vinay in director Saran’s ‘Modhi Vilaiyaadu’. In the meantime, she acted in Bharath starrer Pazhani, which bit the dust silently. She then shifted her base to Telugu films and is said to be having her hands full with many new film offers in Telugu in the aftermath of the super success of ‘Magadheera’.

Close on the heels of actress Khushboo aligning herself with the DMK by formally joining the party, another Kollywood personality might soon follow suit, it is strongly rumoured in Tamil film circles. As if they were waiting for Khushboo to join the party, some of her fans in Tiruchy District have re-launched their initiative to build a ‘temple’ in her name!
Can’t stop thinking whether the said initiative has the approval of Kalaignar, who never welcomes temple(s) of any kind! Meanwhile, Khushboo is seriously endeavouring to rope in dance choreographer Kala ‘Master’, who was one of the juries along with Khushboo in the dance reality show ‘Maanada Mayilada’ being aired on Kalaignar TV, to join the DMK!The bubbly actress reportedly took instructions and guidance from the famed dance choreographer before deciding to align herself with the DMK. Now that she’s into the party, Khushboo has asked Kala too to join her at the party in the near future, to which Kala is said to have expressed her nod.

Bhavana, who made heads turn with her first Tamil film Chithiram Pesuthadi, went on to do several films in Telugu and Malayalam simultaneously. After teaming up with 'Thala' Ajith in Aasal recently, the lady is truly on a high. The pretty actress is currently busy with her maiden Kannada film Jackie opposite Puneeth Rajkumar. Last week, she was injured when she tried to do a risky shot for the film.
“The scene had Puneet riding a bike and I was riding pillion. We had to overtake a sugarcane-laden lorry and I had to stand up and pull out a cane as part of the scene. After completing two shots, we went for a third shot but the lorry accidentally picked up speed, I lurched forward and fell on the ground. It was a miraculous escape for me as I was dragged on the road by the bike which went out of control when I fell. I sustained bruises on my left leg. Actually, the director and Puneet had suggested using a double but I insisted on doing it,” the actress said to a leading English daily.
Bhavana is now taking rest at her home in Trichur. When asked about rumours in the Malayalam media about her parents looking for a groom for her, Bhavana said, “Just because Gopika, Kavya and Navya got married in a short span of time, the media has been trying to marry me off. I’m not mentally prepared for marriage and I’m yet to find Mr. Nice Guy. I will be signing two films after my US trip. Why would I want to get married when I’m doing well for myself in movies?”

Comedy actor Singamuthu, who has been arrested by the police on a complaint filed by comedian Vadivelu, is languishing in Puzhal Central Prison and is said to be literally crying, telling his prison-mates that he had been ‘framed’ and put in prison for no fault of his.
Singamuthu was arrested a couple of days ago and wasn’t reportedly allowed to even change into his formal dress. He, therefore, had to come to the prison in the casual clothes he was wearing at the time of arrest. After he was left on his own in the prison cell, he told his mates that it was by cruel fate that he had landed up there.
His advocate and relatives, who met him at the prison yesterday, gave him dresses to put on when Singamuthu lamented that while he made everyone laugh through his acts in films, in real life, he is being made to cry for no fault of his.
The hearing has now been postponed to 19th May as the police sought ‘some time’ from the Court to file a reply.
As Singamuthu is a tax-payer, he has been granted ‘A’ class facility in the prison.
