Actress Roja Now Returns To Tamil Films After A Long Hiatus
Remember actress Roja, one of the prettiest actress Kollywood has ever had, who debuted as heroine in the early nineties in the musical hit ‘Chembaruthi’ opposite Prashanth? She went on to act against almost all the leading heroes (with the exception of Kamal Haasan) and has the unique distinction of having starred in more than 100 movies as heroine in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages.
A few years back, she aligned herself with the Telugu Desam party in Andhra Pradesh and contested the State Assembly elections in vain. She then switched her allegiance to the Congress Party, where she felt that she wasn’t given her due at all. The political uncertainty in the State in the wake of the demand for a ‘separate Telengana’ has reportedly had its effect on Roja, observers say.Roja now returns to Tamil films after a long hiatus and plays Vijay’s mother and Raj Kiran’s husband in the film ‘Kaavalkaran’. Talking about her stint in politics, Roja says, “I faced many hardships in politics and toiled a lot for the people’s welfare. These commitments at times even denied me my routine household chores. I have found people favouring only those ‘posing’ as serving them and not those who ‘actually’ serve them.
“The male-chauvinistic tendency is very much prevailing in politics where men don’t take very kindly to the growth of women. I have come back to films and am open to any role that suits me. I’m happy to be playing Vijay’s mother. People tend to like variety of heroines from time to time…glamour alone can’t assure success for any heroine; she can succeed only if she possessed the requisite talent,” said Roja.
This would be Roja’s second film with Vijay, the earlier one being the ‘item’ number she performed in Vijay’s ‘Nenjinilae’, his first action film, for the song ‘Thanga nerathuku naan…’.
Times have changed a lot in a span of a decade!
