Aishwarya Rai has decided not to attend India International Film Awards in Colombo

Aishwarya Rai has decided not to attend India International Film Awards (IIFA) function to be held in Colombo in June. It may be recalled that her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan had earlier decided to boycott the event paying heed to the requests from the big weights in Kollywood.

The reason given for Aishwarya’s absence from Colombo was her previously agreed commitment to be at Cannes, France for the film festival and some other ‘personal’ reasons. The organizers of the awards function had earlier said that come what may, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai would surely be participating in the event.

Some Tamil organizations, including director Seeman’s Naam Thamizhar movement, had protested against Amitabh’s participation in the event and had even laid siege to the actor’s Mumbai residence, resulting in Big B rethinking on his taking part in the event. The movement has again started protesting outside Amitabh’s residence and announced an ‘indefinite’ fast this time.

Reports from Mumbai say that both Ash and Abishek won’t be participating in the event and that Ash would soon be leaving for Cannes, France to attend the international film festival there.
