Bombay Jayashri disheartened when Adele beat her

Panaji: Bombay Jayashri says she was disheartened when Adele beat her and took home the Oscar for Best Original song at this year’s Academy award.

The singer was nominated for her “Pi’s Lullaby” from director Ang Lee’s acclaimed film ‘Life of Pi’ at the 85th Academy awards. Adele won the award for the title track of the last James Bond film ‘Skyfall’.

However, Jayashri said the feeling of loss was only momentary and she enjoyed the glitzy ceremony to the core.

“Well I did feel bad. For three or four seconds I was like ‘Oh she took it away from me’. But then I recovered soon. I felt highly honoured that I was nominated alongside such great people… I was carrying India with me that day. I can’t thank Ang (Lee) enough for giving me such a great opportunity,” the singer said.

The “Zara Zara” hitmaker has sung in over 65 films in different languages in her 20-year-long career.

Jayashri said the Oscar ceremony sent her back to her younger days as she felt like a school girl attending an annual function.

“Everything is done up beautifully. And the emotions running through me was just like I was attending my annual school function. The directors, actors, producers were all very excited and happily interacting with each other. I feel blessed to have attended such a prestigious event,” she said.
