  • Chennai: Actress Anushka Shetty and her ‘Singam’ co-star Suriya have collaborated with TeachAIDS campaign, which aims to spread awareness about the disease among children. She says she wishes to follow the cause closely.

“I’m not much into social service and have never been associated with any programme,” Anushka told us.

“One of the reasons I didn’t get associated with any programme (yet is) because I usually don’t follow it, but I wish to follow the AIDS awareness initiative religiously,” Anushka told us.

Actors Shruti Haasan and Siddharth are also a part of the campaign.

Anushka along with other actors have featured in an animated awareness video on AIDS, which was unveiled recently.

“I belong to a very conservative family like majority of others in this country and I know how we react to AIDS and sex education. We even consider talking about it a taboo not just in schools, but even in colleges.

I’m sure programmes like these will create more awareness,” said Anushka, who initially distanced herself from people afflicted with HIV.

“I was associated with two groups with AIDS many years ago and once when they offered me food, I refused to eat it because I felt uncomfortable and didn’t have the awareness that it’s safe to dine with them. Today, I don’t feel the same because I have the knowledge,” she added.

  • Chennai: In upcoming Telugu comedy ‘Choosinodiki Choosinantha’, actor Nagababu will imitate the role of his young brother Pawan Kalyan from his recent release ‘Attarintiki Daaredhi’. The film’s director hopes the audience takes it in the right spirit.

“Nagababu sir will essay the role of Pawan Kalyan from ‘Attarintiki Daaredhi’ and his character is also named after Pawan’s role.

We have even made him (Nagababu) don the same look as Pawan in the film. We want the audience to take all this in the right spirit and not get offended,” the film’s director Anil Vatupali told us.

“This has been done purely for entertainment purpose. Some of the recent Telugu films featured leading comedians imitating scenes from several star’s films, but we thought only Nagababu sir can do this particular role. Any other comedian imitating Pawan Kalyan may not have gone down too well,” he added.

The director clarifies that the intent is not to cash in on the success of ‘Attarintiki Daaredhi’.

“We are only trying to have some fun. Even Nagababu sir enjoyed playing this role. We have no intention on banking on the success of the film,” he added.

The film also features Sivaji, Krishnudu aka Alluri Krishnam Raju and Nitya in important roles.

Prasanna creative initiative has been received

  • Chennai: R.S. Prasanna is using social networking platforms to create the right buzz for ‘Kalyana Samayal Saadham’, releasing on December 6. He believes it’s an effective marketing practice.

“Of course, there’s money involved in marketing and my distributors know it better. But social media is a cheap and effective marketing technique because it helps create one-to-one communication with the audience about your film,” Prasanna told us.

‘Kalyana Samayal Saadham’ revolves around one big fat south Indian wedding.

Produced by Arun Vaidyanathan, the film features Prasanna Venkatesan and Lekha Washington in the lead roles.

“Since the theme of our film revolves around marriage, all of us have replaced our profile pictures on Facebook with our wedding pictures. This includes me, my producer Arun and lead actor Prasanna. Lekha, who is still single, has been posting best wedding videos available on the net on her wall,” Prasanna said.

The idea was to do something innovative.

“Even though it was a planned strategy, we are doing it because we love our film. Instead of counting the days for release, we decided to do something that will stand out and draw the attention of the audience. From profile pictures to personal posts, we wanted everything to be marriage-related,” he said.

The creative initiative has been received well.

“We have been getting congratulatory messages from people we don’t even know on Facebook. It’s a myth that social media is an urban phenomenon, but it’s not only for the elitists. Even if audiences take notice of our work on these platforms, we have achieved our purpose,” Prasanna said.

  • New York: Singer Miley Cyrus and teen pop sensation Justin Bieber have been named the least influential people by a magazine.

In a list compiled by GQ magazine, around 25 people have been named the Least Influential People of 2013.

Cyrus, 21, received the title because of her controversial appearance during this year’s MTV VMAs where she twerked and wailed her tongue as she performed with Robin Thick. In “Wrecking Ball”, the singer has gone completely nude.

“Miley spent the entire year foam-finger-blasting herself, licking sledgehammers, and basically trying every insane strategy she could think of to rile up America’s few remaining pearl clutchers. What’s sad is that it totally worked,” the magazine said.

Bieber, 19, who had been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, earned the spot in the list because of his errant behaviour.

“When you’re a just-legal megastar raising hell and being a brat, people will still give you a chance,” the magazine said.

“They’ll blame the money and the fame and probably your parents. But once you lose the baby fat, there are no viable excuses,” they added.

Other stars who made it to the Least Influential list, include Lady Gaga, Ryan Reynolds, ‘Man of Steel’ director Zack Snyder, Alex Rodriguez, Tim Tebow, Will Smith and his family and Dennis Rodman among others.

“I found his eyes very intense. Whenever I did intense scenes with him, I used to get very shy. This is for the first time I found myself in such a situation,” Madhuri told reporters.

“When you are with him, you don’t have to act, you just have to react. He is such a natural actor,” added the actress.

A sequel to Vidya Balan starrer 2009 hit film ‘Ishqiya’, this will be Madhuri’s first full-fledged movie role in six years. She feels filmmaking has undergone a lot of changes in the last few years.

She was last seen playing the lead in 2007 release ‘Aaja Nachle’.

“Things have changed. There is a lot of discipline now. Things are well planned now, which is good for the actors. Promotions have become a big deal and it’s very hectic, but it’s all for the good,” said the actress of hits like ‘Beta’, ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ and ‘Devdas’.

Recently, she made a guest appearance in the “Ghaghra” song in hit movie ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ also features Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi.

  • Mumbai: The censor board has axed “Eggjactly” from being used in Sunny Leone starrer ‘Jackpot’. However the Indo-Canadian adult film star says it is a family film and doesn’t “require censorship”.

The 32-year-old, who has shot some bold scenes for the movie, admits that it’s censor board’s job to see what’s suitable for young adults to watch.

At the same time, she feels that ‘Jackpot’ “is not an A-certificate movie. So, they have to be really careful on what the subject matter is.”

But I don’t think there is anything in the movie that requires censorship. It’s a very nice family movie that everyone can watch,” added the actress who entered Bollywood with erotic thriller ‘Jism 2′. She was speaking at the music launch of the film.

Meanwhile, director Kaizad Gustad is upset with the censor board for banning “Eggjactly”, by Javed Jaffrey.

“It’s unnecessary. I don’t understand why the song has been banned – it’s funny and there is humour in it. It is not anything personal. It is about the whole country. He (Javed) has not attacked any one person,” Gustad said.

“The censor board should have some sense of humour. It’s just a funny song and he has not offended anybody. He has been very careful to avoid personal attacks,” Gustad added.

The film’s actor-producer Sachiin Joshi feels he is being targeted.

“I seriously think it’s somebody’s ploy against me and I am being targeted,” he said reacting to the ban on the song.

‘Jackpot’ has been shot in Goa and also stars Naseeruddin Shah. It hits theatres on December 13.

“Finally, I had to remind her about Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, who worked together despite being partners in the past. Eventually, she agreed to do the film only because she loved the script and not for any other reason,” he added.

Simbu, who had no qualms to work with Nayanthara, will produce the film.

“He didn’t even hesitate a little and agreed instantly to act in the film. He even expressed interest to produce it,” said Pandiraj.

The rest of the film’s cast is yet to be finalised.

  • Panaji: Bombay Jayashri says she was disheartened when Adele beat her and took home the Oscar for Best Original song at this year’s Academy award.

The singer was nominated for her “Pi’s Lullaby” from director Ang Lee’s acclaimed film ‘Life of Pi’ at the 85th Academy awards. Adele won the award for the title track of the last James Bond film ‘Skyfall’.

However, Jayashri said the feeling of loss was only momentary and she enjoyed the glitzy ceremony to the core.

“Well I did feel bad. For three or four seconds I was like ‘Oh she took it away from me’. But then I recovered soon. I felt highly honoured that I was nominated alongside such great people… I was carrying India with me that day. I can’t thank Ang (Lee) enough for giving me such a great opportunity,” the singer said.

The “Zara Zara” hitmaker has sung in over 65 films in different languages in her 20-year-long career.

Jayashri said the Oscar ceremony sent her back to her younger days as she felt like a school girl attending an annual function.

“Everything is done up beautifully. And the emotions running through me was just like I was attending my annual school function. The directors, actors, producers were all very excited and happily interacting with each other. I feel blessed to have attended such a prestigious event,” she said.

  • Thiruvananthapuram: Mohanlal is impressed with Sachin Tendulkar’s speech at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai last week and says the legend has set an example for generations to come.

Mohanlal, who took to his blog to express his views on the speech and posted a write up titled “An enlightening Swan song at Wankhede”, missed the speech on November 16 due to work commitments.

“I read it the next day and it came to light that just like the beginning, the ending is also very important,” wrote Mohanlal, known for memorable films like ‘Vanaprastham’, ‘Bharatham’, ‘Manichithra Thaazhu’, ‘Chithram’ and ‘Kireedam’.

“What he spoke is just not limited to one profession, as there is a lot to learn for professionals from diverse sectors,” he wrote.

Soon after Tendulkar finished playing his last match, the government announced the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour of the country, for the 40-year-old.

Tendulkar dedicated it to all the mothers in India – and especially his own mother Rajni Tendulkar.

Mohanlal says that those who dump their parents should learn a lesson from Tendulkar and realise that there’s no success without a mother’s blessing.

“His speech should now be taught in schools as this will be a morale booster for the children,” wrote the superstar.
