Rajnikanth means ‘Maximum Guarantee’ and the actor is the only living superstar of India with the other being the late Kannada Superstar Dr. Rajakumar. The term ‘Superstar’ actually refers to the star who can rake in the box office collections and promise the ‘Minimum guarantee’.
Rajnikanth has not had a flop for more than a decade as even ‘Baba’s collections did not mean a failure at the box office. The term ‘superstar’ does not apply to any tom, dick and harry who gives continuous failure films. Rajnikanth may have been doing a film once in three years but then the scale of his films and the money involved skyrockets to a great extent.Enthiran is a record breaker and is the film made with the highest budget ever in India. Enthiran’s Audio CDs have been sold in great numbers and ‘Think Music’ has been reporting burgeoning sales. More than 700,000 Audio CDs of Enthiran have been sold. Robot’s album has also been selling for record numbers.
The distribution rights in Telugu were purchased for a record Rs. 33 crores, Rs. 9.5 crore in Karnataka and Rs. 6 crore in Kerala. This is a first time that a regional film is sold for such a hefty price and the price of even Mammootty and Mohanlal’s films would not be half of what Enthiran is sold for in Kerala.
Now, distributors have started fighting over the distribution rights of Enthiran for Tamil Nadu. Distribution rights for Chennai is considered the most profitable as ‘Abirami Ramanathan’ purchased ‘Sivaji – The Boss’ for Rs. 6 crore and reaped a profit of more than Rs. 12 crore.
Now, he is there eagerly waiting to get the Chennai’s distribution rights of Enthiran. But Sun Pictures has been maintaining silence over the distribution rights for Chennai, Tamil Nadu and the world over. Sun Pictures will surely come up with a hefty price for the distribution rights of Tamil Nadu, Chennai and the International Rights.
Enthiran is expected to be released in 30 centers in Tamil Nadu. If there were to be one person behind all these hype, it is none other than Superstar Rajnikanth.
