Actress Vijayashanti Arrested By The Police

On a day of swift developments on Saturday, TRS MP Vijayashanti was arrested by the police for her provocative remarks made recently, shifted her to Chanchalguda jail and released on bail, all within a span of five hours.

The police who made unsuccessful attempts to pick her up from her house on Friday finally intercepted her car on Road No. 3 in Banjara Hills as she was bound for Siddipet around 12.30 p.m. She was proceeding to attend the filing of nomination by the TRS candidate for Siddipet Assembly constituency when the police stopped her convoy at a traffic intersection.

There was chaos on the busy road after the police swooped down on Ms. Vijayashanti's car when it slowed down, forced the driver out and took hold of the key even as the MP shouted in protest. TRS workers in the convoy resisted attempts by police to take her away. The police pushed the MP into a waiting vehicle amid a scuffle. Workers who blocked the way by lying down on the road were physically removed to clear the way.

Driven to court

Ms. Vijayashanti was driven to Nampally courts complex and produced before a magistrate who remanded her to judicial custody till July 15.

At the instance of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, an advocate immediately moved a bail application stating that she was arrested on a trumped up charge of making provocative remarks.

Soon after she walked into the jail, news came that she was granted bail on a personal bond for Rs. 1,000.

Ms. Vijayashanti came out around 5.30 p.m. after the order was served on the jail authorities.
