  • The film Raavanan directed by Manirathnam was released worldwide on 18th of this month. This film was made in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages. Abhishek Bachchan did the lead role in the Hindi version which was titled Raavan while the Tamil version Raavanan had Vikram in the lead role. Aishwarya Rai was the heroine in both the versions. Amitabh Bachchan after seeing the film commented on Twitter that some of the important scenes were deleted and because of this Abhishek Bachchan’s role is confusing.

Manirathnam spoke to the media about this.

What is your view on Amitabh Bachchan comment on Twitter?

Amitabh could have called me and told me his views that he twitted. He knows my phone number. Everyone has got the right to express their views on a film. But I will accept the views of the audience.

How did you the idea directing a film based on Ramayana?

Ramayana was written 2000 years ago. But the characters in this epic were suitable for the present society. There is truth in these characters. So I got the idea making a film on this few years ago.

You have shown Raavanan has a good person in this film?

This film is not fully based on Ramayana. I have taken some incidents from Ramayana and woven a story. There are people like the tough guy Veera in the society even now. I have shown their affection and romance.

Was there any difference while directing your other films and this film?

Whenever I direct a film, I have a feeling that it is my first film. I had the same feeling when I directed Raavanan. For each film I make a route and journey in it. I worked in this film with lot of expectations. Since the whole story happens in forests I travelled a lot for outdoor shooting. Since rain and storm was connected to the story, we experienced this very much.

You have made Aishwarya Rai go into a cave and deep pit. Did she cooperate?

Aishwarya Rai was deeply involved in this film. She was not reluctant to act in any scenes since she was a woman. She worked hard like other actors.

How did the audience receive this film especially Mumbai audience?

When the audience comes into the theatre they should be absorbed into the film at the sixth minute itself. This has happened in the case of Raavanan. The taste of the audience is same throughout India. Mumbai audience also enjoyed the scenes which our audience enjoyed.

Is the crux ready for your next film?

There will always be two or three crux inside me always. I will decide which will be my next film among these.

You have seen the films directed by new directors. Who has attracted you?

Lot of talented directors have come in Tamil now. India’s No 1 directors are here. I am really proud about this.I liked the film Subramaniapuram and Paruthiveeran very much.
