Actress Namitha Refused The Invitation From IIFA Sri Lanka

South Indian actress Namitha has turned down an offer to perform at the upcoming IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) weekend in Sri Lankan capital Colombo.

Her decision to not attend IIFA has been influenced by the call by Tamil community worldwide to boycott the event as a mark of protest against the alleged atrocities on Tamils in the island nation.

In her statement, Namitha said: “I refused the invitation from IIFA to attend the function in Colombo. How can I attend even after knowing the existing problem? It is the Tamil people who made me what I am today. I will never do anything that may hurt the sentiments of Tamil people who are the reason for my living today.”

Namitha apparently enjoys a fan following even in Sri Lanka. That’s why the Sri Lankan government was keen to have her perform during the three-day IIFA weekend that begins from June 3.

Not just Namitha, a lot of other Tamil artistes like A R Rahman and Mani Ratnam are giving IIFA a miss this year.
